Our conceptual framework for health promotion is based on a wellness approach that provides a comprehensive and integrated rationale for promoting health and well-being and preventing disease.

  • Promoting emotional stability, positive self-esteem, and resilience to stress.

  • Focusing on building and maintaining good physical health through exercise and movement, mindful eating and drinking, supported by rest and sleep.

  • Building and maintaining strong, positive, comforting relationships with others through strong morals, empathy, adaptation and altruism.

  • Engaging in continuous learning and creativity whilst striving for personal growth by being open to new ideas, changing perspectives and self-reflection.

  • Cultivating a sense of meaning and purpose in life through connection with a higher power, community, and/or through self-awareness and practice.

  • Living in a safe and healthy environment, promoting a positive relationship with the natural world and reducing environmental harm.

  • Achieving work-life balance whilst pursuing a career that is fulfilling and allows for the expression of talent.

  • Managing finances in a sustainable way to reduce stress and increase security.

  • Promoting an intentional and risk-aware use of technology, developing the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the digital world safely and effectively.

  • A Holistic View: health and well-being are not just the lack of disease, but a dynamic state that involves all the elements of living.

  • Empowerment: we recognise the importance of empowering individuals, communities, and populations to take control of their own health and well-being.

  • Multilevel Approach: implemented at multiple levels, including individual, community, and societal levels.

  • Determinants of Health: we are all influenced by a range of factors, including genetics, lifestyle, environmental and social factors.

  • Prevention & Health Promotion: through meaningful activities that include an element of fun, joyfulness, purpose and connection.

  • Collaboration & Partnerships: human-centred and community-led, working in collaboration with all stakeholders to create supportive, gender neutral and inclusive environments for health.

  • Evidence-based Practice: a framework based on the best available evidence and is informed by research and evaluation.
